The Perfect Night Out In Malaga

Photo by David Becker on Unsplash

"The city of paradise" is the nickname given to the city by the famous Spanish poet Vicente Aleixandre.

After living in Malaga for 3 years, I realised that he was right. Malaga is sun, happiness, parties and safety.

While living there I used to go out with my friends at night and we got into a sort of ritual about where to eat, where to drink and where to chill. First of all, if you and your friends are not at the same place, you'll probably meet at the beginning of Calle Larios.

From there you'll have to agree on where to eat, but no worries, I'm here to give you all the good places.

So here is a quick guide on how to get the most out of your night in Malaga !

If you fancy a delicious and original burger then you have to go to the Burger and Grill Napolitan BBQ.

They have a wide range of huge burgers which are all delicious but if you really want my opinion there is only one that you shouldn't miss : Il Maremmano ! Il Maremmano is a burger with truffles and I can assure you that it will be an explosion of flavors in your mouth.

  • La Surena

If you are on a budget, La Surena will be the perfect place for you. They offer a wide range of good quality tapas such as the classics Tortillas de Patatas and Patatas Brava.

La Surena is a great place to hang out with friends as it is cheap, the bucket of 5 beers is only 4€.

My personal favorite is the Mediterranean flatbread but the guys usually go for the "broken egg with ham and potatoes".

  • Casa Lola

Casa Lola is one of the best Tapas bar of Malaga and it won't break the bank.

The only problem is if you're extremely hungry, there might actually be a queue outside but that can only be a good sign.

"Open your eyes", one of their creations is a delicious artichoke on a piece of bread with a creamy bechamel.

Definitely try their small burger as well, the sauce used in it will amaze you.

After getting your stomach filled, you will probably want to go drink and chill in one of Malaga's pub.

There are so many bars in Malaga, however, only a few will make the cut on the top list.

  • Sala Premier

My younger brother made me discover this place on a night out with my cousin and I loved it.

This place is simply magical.

At the entrance, there is a car in which you can seat in but I would recommend you to go upstair.

While climbing the stairs, you will find yourself in Gotham City with Batman looking down on you.

Once upstairs, the most wonderful part of Sala Premier will be on your left, right there you will pass The Gates of Argonath and walk straight into Lord of the Ring with Bilbo Baggins sitting right next to you.

They also have a wide range of games that you can borrow for the night.

  • Morrissey's Irish Pub

If you want a place where you can drink, talk and enjoy nice music then Morrissey's is the place to be.

On Wednesdays, they have a trivia game on different themes in both english and spanish. If your table wins the game, you get free drinks.

As for the drinks, they obviously have Guinness but they also offer nice cocktails and shots.

Quick advice, do not take the absinthe one.

  • Alquimia

There's no place like Alquimia. Get into this small bar where you can only stand and be amazed by the huge "shots menu" displayed on the walls.

Each shot is named after a movie or a cartoon and only costs 1.50 €.

If you like sweets, try Dracula, a bright red shot with candies in it. And if you like living dangerously, go for Trainspotting, a shot of tabasco, tequila and cognac.

After having a few drinks, you'll either be in the mood to go dance the night away, to go relax or to beat your friends at pool.

If you are in the mood to dance, go to Malaga most famous nightclub : Sala Gold. The place can welcome up to 800 people and has two rooms with different music being played. So choose your favorite and dance like never before .

You can also head to Seven, one of the city's best nightclub : tested and approved by many.

If you would rather chill than go wild, Malaga has a few nice spot to sit down and talk about life with your friends.

The first place would be in front of the Alcazaba, there are some bench but you could also sit on the wooden steps next to the roman theater.

The most relaxed place to go with your friends is definitely the Paseo del Palmeral which is located in Malaga's harbour. There you will find some sort of deckchairs, where you can lay and take a nap.

However, if you are in the mood for pool, a few places will delight you. The first one you could go to is The Museum, which is an Irish Pub located right in the heart of the city.

This pub owns 3 pool tables so you'll definitely have some place to play and beat your friends. Another great thing is that you'll be able to drink some Guinness.

If all the tables there are already used -you would be very unlucky, but that could happen-, you can go to Smile.

The relaxed atmosphere and the pool will make it the best place to finish your night out.

A little bonus, if you partied all night and are still around at 8am, don't hesitate to go grab yourself a wonderful churros from Casa Aranda, Malaga’s most renown churreria.

If this night out is not enough for you or if you want to try something else, Malaga has a lot more to offer from karting to bowling and cinema to playa, you just can't get bored.
